Funeral Services

A funeral is a time to honor and give thanks for the life of someone special, while also offering comfort to grieving family and friends. At St Cuthbert's, we provide a caring and personal service to help you say goodbye to your loved one, entrusting them to God’s loving care. Our vicar will guide and support you through the planning and conduct of the funeral service. This can take place in the church, at a crematorium, or at the graveside, depending on your family’s wishes. Whether your loved one was a regular churchgoer or not, everyone is welcome to have a Church of England funeral in their local parish church. If you prefer, a shorter service can be held at a crematorium or graveside, with the option to hold a separate service for the burial of ashes at a later date.

Why Choose a Church Funeral?

A church funeral provides the opportunity for a fuller service, including hymns, readings, and personal tributes. It is especially suitable for larger gatherings, as church spaces can accommodate more people than crematorium chapels. Funerals are typically arranged through a local funeral director, who will liaise with the vicar on your behalf. The vicar will meet with you to discuss your wishes, ensuring the service is personal, meaningful, and a fitting celebration of your loved one’s life. Practical Information There is a statutory fee for funerals, with additional costs for optional services such as an organist. Your funeral director will provide a detailed breakdown of these costs.
