Hello and a warm welcome to St. Cuthbert’s, a cherished Church of England community located on Quarry House Lane in East Rainton. We’re delighted you’ve discovered us online! The internet is a remarkable gift, offering new ways to connect with one another and to share God’s love in a world that’s constantly evolving.
St. Cuthbert’s holds a special place in the heart of our community. Built between 1866 and 1867, our beautiful church was designed by the esteemed architect C.H. Fowler. It is a testament to the craftsmanship and faith of those who came before us, standing as a beacon of hope and worship for generations. Inside, you’ll find stunning features like the south chancel window, created by Wailes and Strang of Newcastle. This magnificent stained glass depicts Holman Hunt’s famous painting, The Light of the World, inviting us all to reflect on Christ’s love and presence in our lives.
Our church is also a Grade II listed building, recognised on the National Heritage List for England. This designation not only highlights the historical and architectural significance of St. Cuthbert’s but also reminds us of our responsibility to preserve this sacred space for future generations.
At St. Cuthbert’s, we extend an open invitation to all. Whether you’re new to the area, exploring faith for the first time, or simply passing through, we would be thrilled to welcome you. Our doors are open for worship, prayer, and fellowship, and we’d love for you to join us in experiencing the warmth of our community.
Come and see for yourself the beauty of St. Cuthbert’s, not just in its architecture and history, but in the spirit of welcome and worship that fills this sacred space. You’ll find a home here, and we look forward to meeting you.
May God bless you richly, and we hope to see you soon!
